Inside Crealytics' Commercial Impact Workshop Session : Learning to Think Like a Project Lead
Great client service is about more than campaign management. It requires ownership, confidence, and the ability to guide clients through difficult situations when the answer is not immediately obvious.
That was the focus of the first session in our Commercial Impact Workshop series, led by Amy Tran, our Senior Director of Growth.
The session challenged our digital marketers to step into the role of a Project Lead and navigate a variety of realistic client scenarios, from performance declines and budget cuts to competitor pressure and urgent business requests.
“Learning from Amy in the 'You’re the PL Now' session was a masterclass in building the confidence to handle difficult client communications independently, without immediately escalating. Watching my fellow participants tackle the same realistic client scenario showed me so many different, brilliant ways to approach professional problem-solving. It was an inspiring session that I’m already applying to my daily client interactions.”

How Paid Media Specialists Develop Project Lead Skills
Each team received a set of client emails based on situations that digital marketers encounter every day.
Some clients were frustrated by declining performance. Others were concerned about increasing competition, budget reductions, or unexpected market events. Each scenario required participants to decide how they would respond, what actions they would recommend, and how they would communicate their plan.
While the situations varied, the underlying challenge remained the same: How do you respond in a way that builds confidence and demonstrates leadership?
Moving Beyond Campaign Reporting to Client Leadership
One of the key themes throughout the workshop was the distinction between reacting to client concerns and proactively leading through them.
Clients rarely reach out because they want more information alone. More often, they want reassurance that someone is in control of the situation.
As discussions unfolded, our digital marketers explored how Project Leads can move beyond simply explaining what happened and instead focus on what happens next.
Rather than waiting for client approval before taking action, the emphasis was on presenting a clear recommendation, outlining a concrete plan, and demonstrating that meaningful work is already underway.
Managing Performance Marketing Challenges with Confidence
Many of the scenarios focused on situations where performance was declining or external factors were affecting results. In these moments, our workshop highlighted the importance of communicating both the actions already taken and the next steps being planned.
By showing clients that our teams are actively monitoring performance, making optimizations, and preparing solutions before concerns escalate, conversations become more productive and confidence remains high.
Digital marketers also discussed how to balance transparency with reassurance, acknowledging challenges without creating unnecessary uncertainty.
“Since everyone manages different accounts and faces different challenges, hearing how other digital marketers approached scenarios I hadn't encountered personally broadened my perspective and gave me practical ideas for handling similar situations in the future.”
Hana Le, Performance Marketing Manager, Crealytics.
Building Commercial and Strategic Thinking in Paid Media
The Commercial Impact Workshop was designed to help our digital marketers strengthen skills that become increasingly important as they grow in their careers.
Technical expertise remains essential, but leadership also requires strong communication, commercial thinking, and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
Through realistic scenarios and collaborative discussion, participants gained practical experience thinking through situations from a Project Lead perspective rather than solely from a channel or platform perspective.
Developing Future Paid Media and Digital Marketing Leaders
At Crealytics, professional development extends beyond technical training.
Workshops like these create opportunities for employees to practice decision-making, challenge their thinking, and learn how to navigate complex client situations with confidence.
Because great client partnerships are built not only on strong execution, but on trust, ownership, and the ability to lead when it matters most.
