Commercial Impact Workshop: Building Creative Problem-Solving in Paid Media

The best client solutions don't always come from the first idea.

In paid media, complex challenges often require teams to think beyond familiar approaches, explore multiple possibilities, and collaborate to identify the strongest path forward.

That was the focus of the latest session in our Commercial Impact Workshop series, facilitated by Arunabh Bhuyan, Performance Marketing Manager at Crealytics.

“Arunabh was a great facilitator as he kept us focused on ideas that were actionable, not just interesting, which made prioritizing so much easier. What really stood out was generating 8 ideas in 8 minutes using just paper and pen; it forced us to think fast and be more creative than expected. Collaborating with other project leads and seniors also created a great environment for generating more ideas and sharing experiences. This session was useful because that skill - quick ideation followed by prioritization - is exactly what we need when solving time-sensitive problems for clients.”

- Victoria Dyachenko, Strategic Insights Lead, Crealytics.

Using the Crazy 8s ideation methodology, our senior digital marketers challenged themselves to generate a high volume of ideas under time pressure before refining, prioritising, and developing the most actionable solutions together.

Using Creative Ideation to Solve Paid Media Challenges

The workshop centred around a single client challenge:

How do we better demonstrate the value of paid media during a client's period of declining performance?

Rather than immediately discussing possible answers, every senior digital marketer worked independently for eight minutes, generating eight different ideas on paper without filtering or debating them.

The exercise encouraged our team to move beyond the obvious first solutions and continue thinking even after the easiest ideas had been exhausted.

Afterwards, each person presented the two ideas they believed had the greatest potential, creating a broad collection of perspectives for the group to explore.

Strengthening Commercial Thinking Through Collaborative Idea Generation

Although everyone started with the same challenge, the solutions reflected different experiences, client situations, and ways of thinking.

Some ideas focused on analysing historical performance and identifying root causes. Others explored proactive client communication, benchmarking against competitors, testing new creative approaches, or demonstrating paid media's influence across multiple channels.

As similar ideas were grouped together, our senior digital marketers discussed their strengths, refined them collaboratively, and voted on the concepts they believed would deliver the greatest value to clients.

“The workshop was a great reminder that when performance is down, it requires us to look beyond the immediate numbers and think more creatively about the story the data is telling. I learned the importance of creating space for structured, out-of-the-box thinking, especially through the Crazy 8s exercise, which pushed us to generate multiple perspectives quickly rather than settling on the first solution. I think workshops like these are valuable because they take us out of our day-to-day way of thinking, encourage collaboration, and give us practical frameworks that we can take back into our client conversations.”

- Rhea Gupta, Senior Performance Marketing Manager, Crealytics.

Turning Paid Media Ideas into Actionable Client Strategies

Generating ideas was only the first step.

Once the strongest concepts had been selected, our digital marketers worked through what implementation would actually look like.

Each winning idea required an owner, a clear first action, and a definition of what success should look like after four weeks. By moving beyond brainstorming into practical planning, the workshop reinforced that strong ideas become valuable only when they can be translated into meaningful action.

Learning from Different Perspectives Across Paid Media Teams

One of the biggest strengths of the session was hearing how colleagues approached the same problem in different ways.

Every senior digital marketer brought unique client experiences, industry knowledge, and problem-solving techniques to the discussion. Comparing those perspectives helped the team challenge assumptions, expand their thinking, and discover approaches they may not have considered individually.

The result was a richer conversation and a stronger understanding that there is rarely only one effective solution to a client challenge.

Developing Future Paid Media Leaders at Crealytics

At Crealytics, professional development goes beyond learning platforms or campaign optimisation.

Our Commercial Impact Workshops encourage our digital marketers to think creatively, challenge conventional approaches, and collaborate on solving real client problems.
